The Imin Center was established in Jefferson Hall in 1985 through contributions from individuals and groups in Hawaii and Japan in commemoration of the 100th anniversery of Hawaii's first Japanese contract workers (imin).  It can accomodate meetings of from 10 to 300 persons, and is equiped for simultaneous translation, teleconferencing, and closed-circuit television.  In addition to an auditorium, it includes meeting rooms, dining rooms, and a reading lounge.

This building and those forming a semi-circle around it were designed by the internationally recongnized architect I. M. Pei, and completed in 1963.
