Born in Iran, Fereiden Fesharaki attended the OPEC Ministerial Conferences in the late 1970s in his capacity as energy adviser to the Prime Minister of Iran. Joined the East-West Center in 1979. He has been an adviser to major oil companies, independent companies, trading companies, state-owned companies, and governments in the Middle East, Pacific Basin and Latin America, as well as the U.S. government. Served as 1993 President of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), the key professional organization representing some 3,000 energy economists in more than 70 countries. Editorial board of the Energy Policy Journal, Hydrocarbon Asia, International Energy and Resources Law and Policy Series, Energy Economics, Mexican Outlook on the Pacific Basin, Journal of Energy Finance & Development; and Energy - The International Journal. Elected a member in 1989 of the Council on Foreign Relations. Since 1991, he has been a member of the Advisory Board of Nippon Mitsubishi Oil Company of Japan, Advisory Board member of the Far East Oil Price Index based in Singapore, member of the Pacific Council on International Policy. Elected in 1995 as a Senior Fellow of the U.S. Association for Energy Economics for distinguished service in the field of energy economics.

Dr. Fesharaki is the author of more than 70 papers and has authored or edited twenty four books and monographs, including: Japan's Long-Term Petroleum Supply Strategy: Policy Options for the Government and Industry (in Japanese, 1993); International Issues in Energy Policy, Development, and Economics (Westview Press, 1992); Fundamentals of Petroleum Trading, (Praeger, 1991); Developments in the Global Oil Market: Implications for the Asia-Pacific Region, 1991 (in Japanese); Energy Market and Policies in ASEAN, (ISEAS, Singapore 1991); Economic and Political Incentives to Petroleum Exploration: Developments in the Asia-Pacific Region (University Press of America, 1990), The Oil Market in the 1990s: Challenges for the New Era (Westview Press, 1989), OPEC and Lower Oil Prices: Impacts on Production Capacity, Export Refining, Domestic Demand and Trade Balances (U.S. Department of Energy, 1989), Electricity in Asia and the Pacific: Power Station Fuel Demand to 2000 (Economist Intelligence Unit, 1989), Spot Oil, Netbacks and Petroleum Futures (Economist Intelligence Unit, 1987), and China's Petroleum Industry in the International Context (Westview Press, 1986).

Dr. Fesharaki was the 1993 President of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE), which is the key professional organization representing over 3,000 energy economists in more than 70 countries. In 1995, Dr. Fesharaki was elected as a Senior Fellow of the U.S. Association for Energy Economics for distinguished service in the field of energy economics.

SHORT BIO: Fereiden Fesharaki joined the EWC in 1979. Born in Iran, he attended the OPEC Ministerial Conferences in the late 1970s as energy adviser to the prime minister of Iran. He has been an adviser to major oil companies, trading companies, state-owned companies and governments in the Middle East, Pacific Basin, Latin America and the US In 1993, he became president of the International Association for Energy Economics, and has served on the editorial boards of leading journals on energy economics and policy. Since 1989, he has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Fesharaki has also served as a member of the advisory board of Nippon Oil Company of Japan and Far East Oil Price Index in Singapore, and a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy. In 2002, he was appointed senior associate of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Surrey.
