Program Description

The Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i, provides a unique opportunity for established professionals aiming to broaden their focus on leadership education and development. The program creates a collaborative environment for a small team of up to four individuals from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.

ALP participants engage in a co-designed program that blends structured activities with independent work, research, and professional exploration. The East-West Center's campus becomes their focal point, featuring involvement in activities alongside the EWC’s Leadership Program. Moreover, participants can attend seminars, fostering connections with a wider network of professionals, research fellows, and students. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need to send academic transcripts of English language proficiency scores with my application?
No. The Advanced Leadership Program is intended for individuals with at least twelve (12) years of professional working experience.  Academic transcripts are not required in order to apply for this program.  Likewise, the TOEFL and IELTS are not required in order to apply for this program. English language proficiency will be determined by the Selection Committee during the interview stage.

What sort of visa is used for international participants attending the ALP?
Selected candidates who are not US citizens or permanent residents will be required to enter the US on a J-1 visa sponsored by the East-West Center.

Can I bring my family with me?
The ALP is an unaccompanied program. Due to safety and liability reasons it is not possible for spouses and/or children to join participants at any time during the program. When the ALP is not actively in session (i.e. either immediately prior to or after) and in accordance with any visa stipulations, ALP fellows are welcome to live off-campus and invite friends and family members to visit the island (note: only active program participants may stay in EWC dorms - friends, spouses and dependents are not authorized to reside in EWC dorms). Visitors will be required to independently apply for appropriate US entry visas. The East-West Center will not sponsor visas for non-US ALP fellows. The participant is responsible for all costs involved.
