There are currently 25 members in the EWCA Ontario Chapter.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the establishment of the Ontario Chapter of the East-West Center, the first East-West Center Alumni Chapter in Canada. The Chapter’s goal is to re-connect alumni with the East-West Center and to strengthen the networks between East-West Center alumni in Canada and around the world.

The Ontario Chapter will host several events throughout the year that will give you the opportunity to interact with other alumni, network, socialize and discuss political, business, environmental and other topics relevant to the Asia-Pacific region. Contact in between events will be facilitated through an online Google group that will keep you posted on scheduled events and provide you with an opportunity to exchange ideas and continue to discuss Asia Pacific issues.

October 2011 Chapter Report

The Chapter has been idle over the summer months. Chapter Leader Jonathan Jacobs is looking forward to re-energizing their efforts in the near future.

April 2011 Chapter Report

Is happy to report that though the Chapter is still in a growing phase, EWC alumni came for the first time to a dim sum lunch in downtown Toronto earlier this April. Discussion at the luncheon ranged from new EWC online community to the future events that the Chapter may be involved in. The Chapter’s Goggle group is continuing to add new members.

On the response to the 2 proposals: The Chapter leader Jonathan Jacobs shared 2 information to the group: One the EWC budget crunch and the other, the Leaving a Legacy Brochure from the EWC Foundation office. At this time, individual alumni are expected to contribute funds. The Chapter supports the status quo (quarterly reporting).

January 2011 Chapter Report
After the EWC 50th Anniversary Conference, the Ontario chapter added new members to their group. The Goggle group is the Chapter’s main medium for keeping current online social media.  A speaking event set during the Fall of 2010 on internal climate change policies and Canada’s aspirations to meet international climate based obligations had to be re-scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2011. The Ontario chapter this summer started an ongoing conversation with the South Korea EWCA Chapter on a jointly operated and funded scholarship. To date, the chapter initiated groundwork for potential scholarship by reaching out to the South Korean Government’s Education Funding Department at their Consulate in Toronto and to a representative of the Ministry of Education from Ontario province.
