Exploring the ‘aina (land) and culture of O‘ahu

"Exploring the ‘āina (land) and culture of O‘ahu"

Enjoy an island tour of Oahu with Alapaki Luke, as your guide. He will take you on a cultural journey…Hawaiian Style!  Explore the wonders and beauty that make this island so special. See the diversity of Oahu on this in-depth scenic tour. Your tour includes the Pali Lookout, Heeia State Park, Kahana Valley, Haleiwa, and the Dole Plantation.

Alapaki Luke started at the East-West Center as a degree fellow from 2001-2003. From 2002-2009, he coordinated and facilitated various activities for the two-week orientation for incoming EWC students, which instills in them an appreciation for Hawai‘i’s native people and the host culture. During their time with Alapaki, they experience the true spirit of the ‘àina (land) and the metaphors within. At the University of Hawai‘i School of Hawaiian Knowledge and Honolulu Community College, Alapaki currently teaches courses in Hawaiian Studies and Geography of Hawai‘i and assists in the university’s Ka Papa Lo‘i o Kànewai, Cultural Garden Learning Center. Although he has a busy schedule, Alapaki still finds time to be one of the most active EWC alumni, leading orientation sessions, presenting for various seminars and programs, and facilitating field-trips for various programs. He has served on the EWCA scholarship committee and is the Vice-President for Participant Affairs on the EWCA International Board.

Friday, July 2, 2010 only

There’s no other show like it in the world. The Magic of Polynesia is the ultimate stage show combining magic, illusions, Polynesian dance, song and chant. A truly innovative and spellbinding evening that reinvents the typical “dinner theatre.” Watch as International Magician Society’s Merlin award-winning master illusionist John Hirokawa performs amazing feats before your eyes. Creative use of pyrotechnics and other special effects make this show even more explosive. This “must-see” spectacle is the #1 show in Waikiki, and you can see it live nightly at the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel’s $7.5 million showroom. Let Roberts Hawaii be the ones to take you there. Book now right here… before the tickets disappear.

The Magic of Polynesia will literally have you on the edge of your seat. To ensure that you have that seat, book through Roberts Hawaii for our special EWC performance on Friday, July 2, 2010. Remember, shows can sell out weeks in advance, so book now. Advance reservations are required.
