The China Scholarship Council - East-West Center Joint Affiliate Scholar Program (CSC-EWC Affiliate Scholar Program) provides a limited number of opportunities for Chinese nationals who are PhD students from universities and institutions in the People's Republic of China, to have a short-term affiliation with the Center while working on dissertation research related to the Asia Pacific region. Affiliate scholars pursue their research in connection with faculty and other scholars and specialists at the East-West Center and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa whom they have previously identified as sharing their interests.
The CSC-EWC Affiliate Scholar Program requires two separate applications. First, an application is submitted to the East-West Center detailing the applicant's plan for dissertation research while in residence at the East-West Center. Successful applicants are then invited to apply for funding from the China Scholarship Council to subsidize their travel, living expenses and health insurance. CSC-EWC Affiliate Scholars are individually responsible for their local expenses beyond the amount awarded by the China Scholarship Program. The CSC-EWC Affiliate Scholar Program is short-term in nature, with visa sponsorship ranging from six months to a maximum of one year. Affiliate Scholars pay a program administration fee of US $50 per month of award.
Consideration for the CSC-EWC Affiliate Scholar Program is both competitive and based on space availability.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the CSC-EWC Affiliate Scholar program is January 15, with a deadline of April 5 for the separate CSC application for selected applicants.

Program Administration Fee
Applicants admitted into the Affiliate Scholar Program pay a program administration fee of US $40 per month of award (e.g., 1 mo. = $50; 2 mos. = $100; 3 mos = $150, etc.). This fee may be paid in US dollars by cash, check or money order (made payable to the East-West Center), or online credit card payment (see link below). Payment in full for the entire award length is due no later than one week after arrival at the East-West Center.
