EAST-WEST CENTER COMMUNITY BUILDING INSTITUTE

Dear New Members of East-West Center Ohana (family in Hawaiian),

Aloha and Welcome!

On behalf of the East-West Center Education Program, staff, and all of the current student fellows, we welcome you to your new home in Hawai'i and the East-West Center community.

Soon, you will be meeting new and continuing student fellows and staff members of the EWC.  You will be joining a community of approximately 400 student fellows from more than 50 countries. Please find links on the left, containing tips and information about day-to-day life in the EWC and Hawai'i, to help answer some questions that you may have about settling into your new home.

It is a tradition for all new fellows to attend the community building institute where EWC staff, current fellows, and special guests welcome you to the community and share with you the opportunities for engagement during your time at the EWC.

Highlight events during the community building institute will include:

  • Aloha ceremony at Keoni Auditorium on Friday, August 10, 2012.  New fellows and affiliates are encouraged to dress in their national attire.
  • Field trip around the island of Oahu, introducing you to the history and rich Hawaiian culture.
  • Picnic at a nearby park hosted by EWC Alumni Hawai'i Chapter and EWC Education Program to conclude the community building institute on Saturday, August 18, 2012.

The detailed orientation schedule and calendar will be posted soon. Please check back in late July.

We would like to once again welcome you to the East-West Center.  We are looking forward to meet each one of you soon.

Sincerely,

Al Harjati

Student Program Specialist
