The Asian Development Bank - Government of Japan Scholarship Program graduate degree fellowship provides support for graduate (post-baccalaureate) studies in approved fields of study at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa (UHM), and for participation in educational activities at the East-West Center (EWC).

The basic requirements for this scholarship are:

1) Two years work experience at the time of application.

2) A full 4-year bachelor’s degree at the time of application, or, the equivalent of a full 4-year bachelor’s degree; (an equivalent of a full 4-year bachelor’s degree could be a 3-year bachelor’s degree plus a 1-year master’s degree, or a 2-year bachelor’s degree plus a 2-year master’s degree, subject to review).

3) All applicants must submit official English proficiency exam scores; minimum acceptable scores are 550 for TOEFL and 6.0 for IELTS. An application without official TOEFL or IELTS scores will not be given consideration.

4) GRE test scores must be submitted if required by the Department of study.

5) If you are applying to the School of Business MBA Program, or International Management Program, please submit official GMAT scores.

6) All test scores must be sent directly from the Test Centers to the East-West Center, institution code #4868, or, if submitted by the applicant, the scores must be submitted in an official sealed Test Center envelope. If we do not receive official test results in an official sealed Test Center envelope, the University of Hawaii Graduate Division will not accept the test scores.

7) Please refer to the ADB website at http://www.adb.org/. Go to "Opportunities/ADB-Japan Scholarship Program" and "Frequently Asked Questions" for more information about ADB eligibility requirements and criteria for selection to apply for this scholarship.

(Refer to the "ADBJSP Information and Instructions" for the Fall 2008 competition on the East-West Center website for more specific information regarding the application process.)

Printout both the ADB application as well as the ADB Application Information and Instructions, and University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) application. (In the East-West Center website please click on “University of Hawaii Admissions Website” for the link to the UHM application/instructions, or, go into the website directly at www.hawaii.edu/graduate/). Complete both applications, sign and date all application pages where required, attach your support documents, and mail no later than the postmark deadline of November 1, 2007. Both applications as well as all support documents must be sent to the East-West Center. Essays, CVs, and Writing Samples can be sent as email attachments. However, the ADB and UHM applications as well as Letters of Reference must be sent through regular mail. Applications must bear the original signature of the applicant and Letters of Reference must bear the original signature of the referee.

As mentioned above, for more information on ADB funding for degree studies, specifically, eligibility requirements and criteria for selection to apply for an ADB Scholarship, please explore the ADB website at www.adb.org/opportunities.

If you are interested in the LLM Degree please complete the LLM application instead of the UHM application and mail it to this office along with the completed ADB application. The LLM application is available on the UHM website at www.hawaii.edu/law, or we can email it to you as an attachment. If you prefer we mail it to you, please provide your regular mailing address.

Remember, the mailing deadline for the ADB application is the November 1, 2007 postmark. Please include as many support documents as possible when you mail the ADB and UHM applications.
