reception featuring international development experts from the East-West Center's Changing Faces Women's
Leadership Program.
Kalpana Sankar
Chief Executive Officer, Hand in Hand Tamil Nadu, Chennai, India
Dr.
Sankar is working to reduce poverty with a focus on education,
employment, income generation, and women's empowerment through programs
which have already reached more than 350,000 Indian women in 200,000
small enterprises. Sankar also leads the Tamil Nadu Empowerment and
Poverty Reduction Project, part of the World Bank lending program. She
was previously a consultant on gender and microfinance to the UNDP and
UNOPS and has conducted microfinance trainings for Afghanistan's
Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation. Sankar is currently an adviser to the
South African government's microfinance program and holds a Ph.D. in
women's development. Ms.
Stack develops programs and partnerships that strengthen and expand the
delivery of Freedom from Hunger's integrated financial, educational,
and health protection services to the poor. She is also a member of the
Steering Committee for the Global Financial Education Project, a
program that aims to provide the poor with knowledge and skills to
manage, protect, and build their assets. Stack has 30 years of
experience in international development and has authored manuals and
articles on Credit with Education, integration of microfinance with
credit unions, and business and financial education. She holds an M.A.
in International Administration from the School for International
