The Pacific Islands Regional Climate Assessment (PIRCA) team will hold the Pacific Islands Regional Climate Forum on December 10-11. PIRCA is a collaborative effort aimed at assessing the state of climate knowledge, impacts, and adaptive capacity in Hawai‘i and the US-Affiliated Pacific Islands. The objective of this forum is to bring together those involved with PIRCA, sector leaders, and other interested individuals to share information on the state of knowledge as it pertains to climate change, climate change impacts, and climate change adaptation.
The full two-day working session is by invitation only. However, there will be a public forum on Monday, December 10 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the East-West Center's Imin Conference Center (Jefferson Hall) in the Keoni Auditorium. The public forum will feature an interactive dialogue with climate experts and sectors leaders from across Hawai‘i and the Pacific Islands region and opening remarks from the Hawai'i Lieutenant Governor Brian Schatz. RSVP for the public session by clicking here.
PIRCA engages federal, state, and local government agencies, non-government organizations, businesses, and community groups to inform and prioritize their activities in the face of a changing climate. More than 100 individuals have been involved in PIRCA since its inception in 2011. The first PIRCA output is their contribution to the 2013 National Climate Assessment, a report titled Climate Change and Pacific Islands: Indicators and Impacts, to be released in November 2012.
The Pacific Islands Regional Climate Forum is sponsored by the Pacific RISA (with support from the East-West Center), Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative (PICCC), USFWS Pacific Islands Fish & Wildlife Office, USGS Pacific Islands Climate Science Center, and NOAA NESDIS NCDC Regional Climate Services.
