Leeward Community College
Leeward Community College, Pearl City, Hawaii will be offering two exciting study abroad programs to Nagoya and Fukuoka, Japan in Summer 2002. It is the second year to Nagoya and the first time to Fukuoka. Feedback from students about the program to Nagoya has been enthusiastic and positive. We have also been told the cost is very reasonable.
Nagoya - Trident College of Languages
Dates: May 27, - June 21, 2002 (4 weeks)
Students earn: 6 credits in JPNSE at the 200 level.
Program includes: Residence at the Trident dormitory with Japanese students of English and students from around the world also studying Japanese at the school. There will be a number of field trips and home visits with Japanese families.

Intended for Culinary Arts Students
Dates: Tentatively scheduled for May 20 - June 10, 2002 (3 weeks)
Students earn: 3 credits in FNS 185 (a Food Service program requirement.)
Program includes: 1 week of classes at the Leeward campus for lectures on fundamental nutrition principles and an introduction to Japanese language and culture. Two weeks in Fukuoka at Nakamura Gakuen University. Lectures by Nakamura Gakuen Food and Nutritional science faculty, joint activities with Nakamura Gakuen students, classes in Japanese cuisine and field trips to historical and cultural sites. Weekend at Nakamura Gakuen's country retreat to learn Japanese folk dancing and enjoying a Japanese barbeque with host college students.
