Brief Institutional Description: A member of the 34 unit University System of Georgia w/14,000 students located in the north suburbs of Atlanta.

Asian/International Stage of Development: Kennesaw State through the initiative of its International Center is in a leadership role in the University System of Georgia. The Director of the International Center is also the chair of the University System Asian Studies Council. Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic have a collaborative Asian Studies Program offering students an opportunity to supplement their majors with a minor in Asian Studies. Currently Japanese and Chinese languages are offered through Critical Languages Program, which is a self-instructional language model. There is an International Affairs major at the University.

Recent/Planned Activities: Last year, the Center for the Development of Asian Studies (ASDP regional center) sponsored seven faculty members to ASDP summer institutes and has delivered three workshops in Georgia and the metro Atlanta area in the last six years. The focus of the Center is more directed to the Atlanta area and the Southeastern part of the United States in developing Asian related programs and events beyond its institutional boundaries. The Center works closely with Agnes Scott College, The Atlanta College of Art, Oglethorpe University, North Georgia State University, State University of West Georgia, and Southern Polytechnic State University. It is in the process of formalizing its relationship by developing a Board of Affiliate Members from each of these institutions. The Center has good working relationships with Emory University, Berry College, Georgia State University, Georgia Southern University, Valdosta State University, and the University of Georgia. Atlanta is the site for the ASDP National Conference at Agnes Scott College, which will be a collaborative venture of the aforementioned institutions.
