YOU CAN HELP CELEBRATE OUR 50TH YEAR!
MEMORIES
The very first East-West Center scholarships were granted in October, 1960 for three degree candidates to study at the University of Hawai‘i. By the mid-1960s, 400 UH degree students were affiliated with the East-West Center, 100 scholars were pursuing research at the Center, and some 1,500 people were taking part in Center training programs in Hawai‘i and throughout the Asia Pacific region.
PROGRESS
Fifty years later, the EWC student population has grown to include 500 students from 50 countries preparing for leadership roles throughout the region. Nearly 60,000 students and participants have participated in the Center’s activities and are engaged in meaningful work throughout the region. In addition, the East-West Center has built a worldwide network of more than 750 government, academic, business and not-for-profit partner organizations.
GIVING OTHERS A CHANCE
Thanks to the generosity of alumni donors, the EWC Association Alumni Scholarship Fund has been able to distribute more than $150,000 so that 47 students from 16 countries could participate in EWC education programs.
You are part of the East-West Center community and can help change lives.
Each year many qualified students need a financial boost in order to benefit from the East-West Center experience, as you have! Sometimes as little as $500 can make a big difference.
HOW YOUR DONATION HELPS
Your gift makes meaningful programs and transformational experiences possible.
Because a U.S. Congressional appropriation covers most of the Center’s basic operating costs, your contribution goes directly to fund scholarships and other important programs that would not exist without private support. All gifts, large or small, are important, but your participation in this, our 50th year, is most important of all!
You Can Contribute to the EWCA Alumni Scholarship Fund or Create Your Own Fund
Gifts of any size are welcome! For commitments of $25, 000 or more, the EWC can set up a separately managed fund. Gifts of $50,000 or more qualify as Permanent Named Endowments. No fees are charged so that all revenues can go directly to benefit the student recipients.
Together, we continue to work toward the vision of a region where perspectives are global, leadership is regional, coorperation is natural and conflict is unthinkable.
