AIJI is the result of five years of collaborative work in Southeast Asia, between the East-West Center and the University of California Berkeley War Crimes Studies Center .   The work began in East Timor and has since moved to encompass Indonesia and Cambodia, as well as having a more regional focus . 

AIJI hopes that further projects will include work in China and other parts of the Asia Pacific.
