2006 ‘Lessons Learned’ Conference

AIJI sponsored a conference on ‘Lessons Learned from East Timor’, in Bangkok, in May 2006. The purpose of this conference was two-fold: to create a forum for the East Timorese participants to plan a forthcoming publication on the Special Panel for Serious Crimes and their experiences there; and to bring together a group of 10 judges and head administrators from the ECCC with 10 key participants from other international and UN-administered tribunals. The purpose of the meeting was to ensure valuable information, experience and advice could be passed on from those who had worked previously at UN-established tribunals to those about to enter the trial phase in Cambodia.
