Funding
The tuition fee for participants in Summer Institute 2010 is US$2,000. This fee covers the cost of administering the Summer Institute. In Bali, course materials and lunches on days the Summer Institute is in session are included within the fee. The tuition fee does not cover costs of travel (air and ground), accommodation, visa fees and incidental expenses during the two-week workshop.
A limited number of scholarships should be available to participants based in Southeast Asia (other than Singapore or Brunei Darussalam) who show the greatest need. Due to funding stream restrictions, scholarships awarded to Malaysian participants cannot include the cost of international travel.
We hope to provide as much financial support as possible to those participants who need the assistance and qualify to receive funds from our various donor sources. However, there are substantial costs associated with putting on the Summer Institute each year, and we receive many more requests for support from qualified applicants than we can fully fund with our limited resources. As such, all applicants are expected to seek funding from their home organizations, governments, universities, or outside funding agencies. Those participants who show initiative raising funds to cover at least part of their participation greatly increase their chances of being awarded scholarship support from the East-West Center.
Travel expenses for the optional field trip portion of the Summer Institute are the responsibility of each individual participant. However, those participants receiving full scholarships awarded by the East West Center to participate in the Summer Institute will have their field trip expenses covered.
