Research Information Services (RIS), the library for the East-West Center, supports research, education, and professional development activities. The collection managed by RIS features a current and interdisciplinary coverage of selected social, cultural, political, and economic development issues in Asia and the Pacific region. The collection focuses on subject areas which include population studies and demography, development economics, energy economics, environmental policy, international relations, and regional governance.

RIS supplements its specialized core of academic and statistical books with holdings of unpublished papers, not widely available, acquired from researchers, institutions, and governments in Asia and the Pacific region. The collection contains some 20,000 books, 27,000 unpublished documents and reprints, 1,100 periodical titles, CD-ROM and diskette publications, and vertical files on subjects, countries, and agencies relevant to Center activities.

In addition to managing its collection, RIS provides information services to staff, participants and on a more limited basis, to members of the public. Services include mediated database and internet searching, training in the use of databases and the internet, interlibrary loan, and document delivery.
