The Asia Pacific Center for Journalists at the East-West Center in Honolulu leads the region in the vast array of programs and resources it offers journalists on Asia Pacific issues, including 10 fellowship travel programs for American, Asian and Pacific island journalists; a news service providing diverse commentary and analysis on breaking and ongoing Asia Pacific stories; comprehensive, updated online news coverage of the Pacific islands; and quick access to the East-West Center's specialists and 50,000 alumni throughout the region.

  • Current information on journalism fellowships and exchanges offered by the East-West Center to provide media professionals with greater knowledge and understanding of the U.S.-Asia Pacific region through travel and dialogue.
  • East-West Wire: brief emailed reports with information, analysis and “quotable quotes” on the news of the day in the Asia-Pacific region and on U.S.-Asia Pacific issues. The reports include quick contact information for deadline interviews with international experts offering diverse perspectives.
  • News Releases provide information about current events, research,  publications, and other newsworthy developments at the EWC.

  • Pacific Islands Report: the definitive online news source of the Pacific Islands www.pireport.org, the PIR website has received more than 1.5 million unique hits since its inception in 1997. PIR offer these services to journalists on deadline:
    • A daily email service of story briefs
    • A wealth of story ideas below the radar of competing media
    • A searchable archive of PIR stories dating to 1997
    • Time zones, country profiles, government websites, and many other updated resources useful to a working journalist
  • Media briefings and exclusive op-eds by East-West Center experts can be provided on request.
  • Publications: free online publications on Asia-Pacific and U.S.-Asia Pacific issues written by East-West Center researchers and other experts. Two series of particular interest to journalists – “Asia Pacific Issues” and “Asia Pacific Population & Policy” -- are written for non-specialist readers. Monthly email announcements of all new publications with links to many free documents are available via email by contacting ewcbooks@eastwestcenter.org and entering "subscribe" in the subject field.
