These 3-day dialogues bring together journalists to discuss important and often sensitive regional issues and media coverage of these issues. The events are sponsored by the East-West Center and its partners to respond to the needs of journalists in Asia Pacific regions by providing a platform for learning; and an exchange of ideas and diverse perspectives. The dialogues help build a dynamic network of professionals who share an interest in issues facing the region.

Two Northeast Asia Dialogues have been held at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii for Japanese, Korean, Chinese and American journalists. A tentative South Asia Journalists Dialogue is scheduled for late 2011.

The 2nd Northeast Asia Journalists Dialogue gathered 15 senior journalists from South Korea, Japan, the United States, and for the first time, China, to discuss important and often sensitive issues in Northeast Asia. Panels of journalists highlighted the different perspectives and priorities of each country, the flashpoints that challenge regional relationships and the difficult job media face in reporting these often sensitive topics. The goal of the Dialogue is to encourage frank, professional and respectful discussion on important regional issues.

The 2008 Dialogue was funded by The Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership, the Korea Press Foundation and the Pacific Century Institute.

• U.S. Presidential Election ;
• Sino-Japan Relations: On the Mend?;
• Post-Olympics China;
• Regional Changes and Media Challenge.
