The Northeast Asia Journalists Dialogue
The Northeast Asia Journalists Dialogue brings together Japanese, Korean, and U.S. journalists to discuss regional issues and media coverage of these issues. The Dialogue is one of the 10-12 journalism programs sponsored each year by the East-West Center to respond to the needs of journalists in the region by providing a platform for learning and exchange of ideas and diverse perspectives. These programs help build a dynamic network of professionals who share an interest in issues facing the region.

2007 Northeast Asia Journalists Dialogue
Theme: Meeting Regional Challenges in the Media
Dates: June 4 - 6, 2007
The Northeast Asia Journalists Dialogue brought together Korean, Japanese, and American journalists to the East-West Center for three days to discuss complex topics such as "Reconciling Histories." It was a new direction for East-West Center media programs and the only known trilateral dialogue of its kind for journalists.
Seventeen journalists presented on panels organized under five themes: Breaking the Impasse: Moving Ahead on North Korea; Generational Changes and New Leadership; Forces Driving Regional Trade: Integration or Competition; Reconciling Histories in Northeast Asia; and Regional Changes and Media Challenges. All of the discussions were frank and lively while conducted in a respectful environment.
Two presentations by journalists are published in the EWC Insights series. Future plans include inviting Chinese journalists to participate in the next Northeast Asia Dialogue.
