Dr. Anna Powles is a Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Defence and Security Studies, Massey University. She is also an Associate Scholar with the MacMillan Brown Center for Pacific Studies, University of Canterbury, co-founder of the Security, Politics, and Development Network, Director of Women in International Security (WIIS) New Zealand, and a member of the New Zealand Pacific Reset Group. Her research in the Pacific focuses on how state and non-state actors are shaping security and the intersection of geopolitics and local security dynamics. Dr. Powles is a Visiting Fellow in the Research Program from 30 September to 31 October 2019. During her one-month Visiting Fellowship at the Center, she will pursue independent research on the “New Zealand Pacific Reset and New Zealand-United States alliance relations in the Pacific”. Dr. Jefferson Fox will serve as her EWC Coordinator.
