Michele Helen Reyes is a Programs Coordinator at the East–West Center in Washington, leading research and design for the Asia Matters for America initiative. She also advises on matters of design and communications for the Washington office, including visual content creation, social media, email marketing, public relations, and maintenance of the East–West Center and Asia Matters for America websites.

Before joining the Center, she worked in communications with various public health organizations, NGOs, and nonprofit organizations including the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea, the US-China Strong Foundation, and the Shanghai-based Stepping Stones China. She has also spent considerable time volunteering for organizations working on US-China relations and issues related to North Korean refugees.

Ms. Reyes received her degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana, where she focused on marketing, humanities, and Mandarin Chinese. Born and raised in Chicago, she has extensive experience living in East Asia, primarily in China while studying at Zhejiang University (Hangzhou) and East China Normal University (Shanghai) as well as in her family’s native Iriga, Philippines. She has also traveled to Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan.
