Spencer Gross

Spencer Gross is a Programs Coordinator at the East–West Center in Washington, with a focus on a wide variety of issues affecting relations between the US and Asia.

Before joining the Center, he worked with the Korea Data and History Initiative at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies to build their conflict escalation tracker chronicling North Korean actions since 1953. He led the client relations team for an educational technology startup in Los Angeles, and interned with the U.S. Department of Commerce in the International Trade Administration, where he focused on issues related to blockchains and trade finance.

In 2014 he taught English in South Korea and has traveled extensively throughout Asia, including in South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. He has also participated in study trips to North Korea and Nepal, in 2011 and 2018 respectively.

Mr. Gross received his MA in International Political Economy and International Economics, with a minor in Korea Studies, and specialization in Emerging Markets from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in 2019. While at the George Washington University, which he graduated from in 2013 with a BA in Political Science, and a minor in History, he studied abroad at the King's College London, and the University of Cape Town.
