Ambassador Charles B. Salmon, Jr., is an adjunct Senior Fellow at the East-West Center. In April 2013, he retired from the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies where he was Foreign Policy Advisor and faculty member since 1996, when he retired from the Foreign Service.
Ambassador Salmon was Foreign Policy Advisor to the Commander in Chief, US Pacific Command. His prior assignment was Vientiane, Laos, where he was the American Ambassador. He also served as Director, Office of Philippine Affairs, Office of Thailand and Burma Affairs, Office of Human Rights in the Department of State. He was Deputy Chief of Mission in Rangoon, Burma and Wellington, New Zealand. He also served in Vienna, Saigon, the Hague and Manila.
Ambassador Salmon received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Fordham University and a Master of Arts in History from Columbia University. He is a graduate of the National War College, and served two years as a First Lieutenant in the US Army.
His awards include the Presidential Award for Meritorious Service, the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Medal, and the Department of State Superior Honor Award.
