Kirsten Oleson is an ecological economist focused on making nature count in decision making. Her interdisciplinary research program combines techniques from engineering and the natural and social sciences to tackle real-world environmental issues. She has been with the Natural Resources and Environmental Management Department at UH Mānoa for over 10 years.
Prior to becoming a professor, Kirsten had a career in international development as an environmental engineer with the World Bank. She earned a PhD in Environment and Resources from Stanford University, an MS in Applied Environmental Economics from University College London, an Ir. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Technical University of Delft, and a BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Virginia. Her post-doctoral fellowship focused on small scale fisheries management in Madagascar.
