The Asia Matters for America Governors’ Staff Program (AMAGSP) is a professional development program for Governors’ offices across the United States. Each state is encouraged to nominate one staff member from their governor’s office to represent their state. Selected staff will learn about America’s economic, diplomatic, education, and people-to-people connections across the Indo-Pacific region and how to better bring these connections to their state. This program will deepen opportunities for offices to understand how the Indo-Pacific impacts their communities on a local, state, and national level while being challenged to employ their knowledge to improve and expand their state’s regional engagement.

This East-West Center fully funded program includes*:

  • 10-day travel to South Korea, Japan, and Hawai’i to meet with business leaders, government officials, and experts
  • An online briefing toolkit with resources and interactive professional development exercises
  • Virtual briefings and networking opportunities with Korean and Japanese counterparts and U.S. officials and experts to prepare for meetings in the region

Outcomes of this program:

  • New network and connections in the United States as well as Japan and South Korea
  • Authoring or co-authoring a publication on the Asia Matters for America Website or in the Asia Pacific Bulletin
  • Contributions to a state report highlighting your state’s connections with the Indo-Pacific
