Annually the International Forum for Education 2020 invites senior scholars and practitioners from various fields to focus on new approaches to educational challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 2006 these seminars have focused on the particular challenges facing higher education.

The program was initiated through consultative sessions held in Hawai`i and Hong Kong in 2002-03. These sessions provided insights into the creative leadership required to confront the difference between what formal schooling now offers and what the 21st century demands. Since 2004, six seminars have been conducted, each focused on a particularly important aspect of education in the Asia Pacific region. A week in duration, each seminar invites ten to twelve international scholars to present a paper on the common seminar theme. These papers are subsequently published either as books or as special journal issues.
