What:

The East-West Center 16th International Graduate Student Conference on the Asia Pacific region provides graduate students with an opportunity to share interdisciplinary perspectives through presenting and attending panel presentations in a warm and supportive environment.The Conference will provide an opportunity to share interdisciplinary perspectives formally, through presenting research papers and attending other panel presentations, and informally in the warm and encouraging environment of the East-West Center in Hawaii. Participation in the 2016 conference had broad representation of 116 graduate students from 24 nationalities, and 39 universities throughout the world. The public is invited to attend the opening keynote address and parallel sessions. More information about the conference will be posted here in the coming weeks.

Opening Ceremony:  Thursday, February 16, 2017, 4:30 - 6:30 PM
Location:  Keoni Auditorium, Imin Conference Center, 1777 East West Rd.

Keynote Address by Dr. Richard Vuylsteke:  
"Smart Cities, Smart Students, Tomorrow's Jobs"

Dr. Richard R. Vuylsteke is the new EWC president and the first to have been an EWC grantee. He is an expert in the strategic and operational leadership of multicultural organizations,  Asia Pacific business and trade, and Asian and Western history and philosophy. He has served most recently as president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. Before that he was president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei, editor-in-chief of the Taiwan Review, and area studies coordinator for the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Institute in Taipei. Earlier in his career, he was a research fellow in East Asian Legal Studies at Harvard Law School as well as a Fulbright scholar at the University of Rajasthan, India.
