This reception is a special benefit to members of the EWC Arts 'Ohana, a distinguished group of individuals who support the success and growth of the EWC Arts Program. Special programs arranged exclusively for 'Ohana members provide unique opportunities to enjoy EWC exhibitions and performance-demonstrations in intimate settings. The East-West Center virtual Arts ʻOhana Reception on Friday, February 5th 6:00-7:00 p.m. will be in conjunction with the upcoming exhibition entitled "Beyond the Surface" featuring select EWC Permanent Collection works by EWC artists.

The program will include featured speakers and performers:
-Mary Kim, EWC alumna (2020) (painter from S. Korea) who recently gifted 3 beautiful paintings to the EWC; 2 of her works will be featured as the centerpiece in the upcoming exhibition.

-Hae In Lee, current EWC student, presenting a pre-recorded Korean Gayageum (zither) music performance in EWC Gallery in front of Mary Kim's paintings; & talk about experience participating in recent EWC Arts outreach programs

-Meleanna Meyer, EWC alumna (1990s) (Hawaiian artist, Honolulu-based) who is working with us on the upcoming community arts project, "The KUMU Project" and who also has a work from the Permanent Collection featured in the upcoming exhibition.

-Aulii Mitchell, local Hawaiian artist & kumu hula; he has created new Hawaiian kapa works that are featured in the exhibition. His work is paired with EWC Permanent Collection work "Impressions of Hawai'i" by Pakistani artist Mussarrat Nahid Imam; a set of works from the 1980s that were inspired by Hawaiian kapa design
