International Meeting on 25 Years of Community Forestry in Nepal: Science Meeting: 29-30 November 2018 at Hotel Annapurna and Training for Entry Level Scientists in Using Remote Sensing and Google Earth Engine: 3-4 December 2018 at ForestAction.

The International Science Meeting seeks to quantify the rate, extent, and socioeconomic importance of Nepal's tree transition based on three decades of Landsat satellite data and spatial modeling.

The Training for Entry Level Scientists is a hands-on workshop with Google Earth Engines; training in accessing and analyzing annual, nation-wide tree cover data. Cloud-based Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform for Big Data remote sensing anaysis will be introduced. Hands-on training with a range of processing techniques and open-access datasets available through GEE will be provided. With an understanding of GEE in place, the new 25-year Nepal tree cover/change dataset including its methodology, accuracy, and derived products will be discussed in detail. For comparison, the access and use of Hansen et al global forest cover dataset will be discussed. Registrants must attend both days of training.

Organizers: Dr. Ram Chhetri, Resources Himalaya, Kathmandu, Nepal; Dr. Naya Sharma Paudel, ForestAction, Kathmandu, Nepal; and Dr. Jefferson Fox, East-West Center. Co-sponsor: NASA LCLUC.
