Over the last 8 months, locally-based Advisors on 7 islands across Palau, Federated States of Micronesia and Marshall Islands have piloted a new form of professional development with the East-West Center Leadership Program. Senior Leadership Development Specialist Gretchen Alther, with funding from the New Zealand Consulate in Honolulu and U.S. State Department Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs, led a series of training-of-the-trainer workshops over two years in Majuro, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Ebeye, Yap, Chuck, and Palau called the North Pacific Women’s Action Program.

A select group of women came forward from these workshops to become Advisors to the next phase of the program, the Community Leadership Incubator (CLI). The Advisors formed a cohort on their island, adapted curriculum and tools provided monthly by Gretchen and her team, then delivered to their cohort. The multiplier effect, combined with place-based adapted curriculum delivered by locally embedded community leaders, makes the program a first of its kind and a model to learn from moving forward.

Come hear Advisors share in their own words what they accomplished and what’s next.
