The East-West Center Arts Program and the Pacific & Asian Affairs Council are proud to announce that the “Sounds of the Asia Pacific” Teacher Workshop has gone ONLINE for Hawaiʻi based K-12 educators and will run June 13-20, 2020. The approximate time commitment is 8-10 hours over this one week period. The Workshop will be comprised of live Zoom sessions and pre-recorded presentations by scholars and practitioners.

The Workshop focuses on musical traditions of the Asia Pacific region and is offered in conjunction with the EWC Gallery exhibition featuring Asia Pacific musical instruments from the Ethnomusicology Instrument Collection at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa. The exhibition also features costumes, masks, photographs and video to assist in understanding the cultural context of the instruments. The workshop will feature presentations by local professional artists in the musical traditions presented as part of the exhibition.
