This performance will present the ancient Hindu epic through Balinese music and dance. It will feature dance and instrumental music from Bali, Indonesia, with beautiful costuming and the lush, dramatic soundscapes of the bronze gamelan orchestra. The production is a collaboration of the University of Hawai‘i's Gamelan Segara Madu, and Tokyo-based Otonomori Gamelan Studio, with a combined total of over 50 performers from Bali, Japan, and Hawai‘i.

Before the Saturday performance, you may begin your Balinese experience at 5:00 p.m. with a Culinary Celebration, on the beautiful garden-facing lanai of East-West Center's Imin Center - Jefferson Hall. Enjoy delicious Indonesian cuisine by Chef Regina Lapian, drinks, entertainment, and a silent auction that includes Balinese artwork created especially for this event, as well as offerings from Bali Aga, The Royal Hawaiian, Fête, Sheraton Hotels, and more. The stage will feature traditional Balinese mask dance and musical duets.  In order to take part in the culinary event you must purchase a Culinary Celebration and Ramayana performance package.
