Reflections on the First Anniversary of Myanmar's NLD Government

An Asia Pacific Democratic Values and Human Rights Seminar featuring:

On the one-year anniversary of Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) government, Myanmar's democratic transition remains as complex and fraught as ever. Achieving national peace seems as distant as ever. Economic development is proceeding slowly amidst questions about the NLD's economic policies. Social divisions remain, particularly in Rakhine State, where the stateless Muslim Rohingya population continues to endure systemic abuses that capture the attention of the international community. Nonetheless, step-by-step progress has also been made on each front, albeit quietly, raising questions about reasonable expectations of change.

Please join former U.S. Ambassador to Myanmar Derek Mitchell for a discussion on the complicated state of play in Myanmar as the NLD's government reaches its first year.

Tuesday, April 11
12:00 P.M. – 1:30 PM
A light luncheon will be served.
