Report Launch: Indonesia's Anti-Corruption Courts - Between Expectation and Reality
Report Launch: Indonesia's Anti-Corruption Courts - Between Expectation and Reality
A Vice Chief Justice of Indonesia's Supreme Court, the Deputy Chairman of the country's Anti-Corruption Commision, East-West Center President Dr. Richard R. Vuylsteke and other dignitaries launch the new report Anti-Corruption Courts in Indonesia after 2009: Between Expectation and Reality, published by EWC and the Indonesian Institute for Independent Judiciary (LeIP). A panel of experts will also offer responses to the report.
In 2019, the East-West Center-based Partnership for Human Rights began collaborating with Leip on a four-year project, funded by the Siemens Integrity Initiative, to address some of the most pressing issues in the ongoing efforts to combat endemic corruption in Indonesia. This report represents the first phase of that project: a comprehensive examination and assessment of the regional Anti-Corruption Courts that replaced a well-regarded single national court in 2009. The report arrives at sound recommendations for reform that should guide Indonesia’s policymakers in addressing current shortcomings of anti-corruption adjudication in Indonesia.
