The Regional Urban Leaders Exchange (RULE) will take place September 12-22, 2018 and will bring together 8 municipal government officials and private industry experts from Asia for a dialogue and study tour program that focuses on smart city development. The program will begin in Honolulu, Hawai‘i at the East-West Center where participants will spend three days learning about the opportunities, challenges and successes of smart city developments in cities throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Participants will share information and experiences with each other as well as meet with colleagues from the city of Honolulu. The entire group will then travel together from Honolulu to Kansas City, Missouri on the US Mainland where they will spend six days visiting with Kansas City officials, local business leaders, and representatives from a wide range of organizations supporting smart city development. The group will also have the opportunity to attend some sessions of the International Smart Cities Conference that will be taking place in the city during the time that the group is there. Kansas City has been selected as the venue for the study tour portion of the program because, with several successful model projects, it is considered a “most connected city” in the US. The city has been hosting delegations of government officials from around the region and is very interested in sharing their experiences with cities in Asia.
