Congressional Staff Program on Korea (CSPK) Congressional Staff Program on Korea (CSPK)

This bipartisan educational certificate program aims to equip congressional staffers with the information and analyses necessary to appreciate the significance of the Korean peninsula and the US role in the region. By focusing on crucial forward-looking issues, CSPK is designed to provide staffers with a more comprehensive understanding of Korea and its significance to US Indo-Pacific policy. This program is in partnership with, and sponsored by, the Korea Economic Institute, and follows the launch of Korea Matters for America/America Matters for Korea on Capitol Hill on April 20, 2023, as well as the summit between President Biden and President Yoon in Washington, D.C., marking the 70th anniversary of the US-Korea Alliance.

Key Program Elements:

  • A certificate program consisting of a series of 60-minute interactive discussions held virtually twice a week across May and June 2023. Certificates of Completion are awarded to participants who attend at least half of the planned sessions.
  • Each session features a single theme/topic, and include speakers from government agencies, think tanks, universities, and other policy institutions.
  • Session topics will include, but are not limited to, issues related to the US-Korea Alliance; North Korea; Indo-Pacific security, cybersecurity, economy, and trade; climate change and energy; multilateral cooperation, etc.

Eligibility Information for Applicants:

  • Applicants must be current congressional staff, employed by either a member of congress or congressional committee, and can come from either chamber or a congressional commission. Previous Indo-Pacific experience is preferred.
