Southeast Asian Economic Community Road Show Luncheon

 

The East-West Center in Washington and the US-ASEAN Business Council hosted a delegation of Southeast Asian economic and trade ministers and ambassadors at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center for a luncheon discussion on Southeast Asian economic integration and US-Southeast Asian economic relations. Senator James Webb (D-VA) met participants prior to the formal program. Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and Dr. Mari Pangestu, Trade Minister, Indonesia, addressed the guests.

 

Other speakers included Minister Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Brunei Darussalam; Minister Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia; Dr. Peter Petri, Non-resident Senior Fellow, East-West Center and Carl J. Shapiro Professor of International Finance, Brandeis International Business School; and Dr. Michael Plummer, Non-resident Senior Fellow, East-West Center and Head of Development Division, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. This delegation visited Washington, DC as a part of the Southeast Asian Economic Community Road Show organized by the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
