The East-West Center’s 2010 Annual Report – 50 th Anniversary issue is now available online to download.

 

For half a century, the East-West Center has brought people together from the United States and Asia Pacific region to discuss critical issues of common concern, cultivate socially aware and responsible leaders, promote cooperation and understanding, and resolve conflicts. For a brief overview of key events during the Center’s 50 year history visit the historic timelinefeatured in the front section of this year’s annual report.

 

“The year both honored our proud legacy and prepared for a future in which building understanding and cooperation in the Asia Pacific region are more important than ever,” EWC President Charles E. Morrison and Board of Governors Chairman Puongpun Sananikone state in their introductionto the report. “The East-West Center looks towards its second half century with both a deep sense of accomplishment and keen awareness of the challenges ahead.”

 

The report also highlights select EWC activities from throughout the year including:  the 50 th Anniversary Dinner Honoring the Founders ; Secretary Clinton’s Two Asia Pacific Policy Speeches ; Community Forums on Development, International Cooperation; and Foreign Policy ; USAPC Washington Conference ; 50 th Anniversary International Conference ; Hong Kong Media Conference ; Obuchi Program Anniversary ; King of Tonga’s Tree Planting Ceremony ; Center-wide Sustainability Initiative ; Election Observation Missions in Solomon Islands and Bougainville ; Arts Program ; and New Publications.

 

A brief list of EWC Seminars, Conferences, and Public Eventsby program area reflects the diverse range of activities hosted by the Center throughout the year.  A graph depicting 2010 EWC Students by region is also featured.

 

Rounding out the report is an informational section including a brief financial summary, description and lists of major gifts to East-West Center Foundation and new scholarship funds that were established , along with directories of Center board and advisory panel members, alumni chapter leaders, program directors and corporate officers, and members of the 50 th Anniversary committees.

 

An online supplementto the printed report offers a more detailed financial review and in-depth participant statistics.

 

Also noted throughout the report are extensive online video and other multimedia resources that provide an opportunity to view some of the key presentations from this historic year.
