EWC Honors Governor Ariyoshi with Asia Pacific Community Building Award

Ariyoshi, former Governor of the State of Hawai'i, with the presentation of the Asia Pacific Community Building Award for his dedication to strengthening the bonds of understanding among the peoples and nations of Asia, the Pacific, and the United States. The Award recognizes outstanding leaders whose vision and professional and personal accomplishments exemplify the mission of the East-West Center.

Governor Ariyoshi has contributed significantly to the development of the East-West Center. In 1975, he signed into law the act creating the public, nonprofit, autonomous corporation that continues today to operate and administer the East-West Center. He served on the EWC Board of Governors, including six years as Board Chair. In 1980, he was active in the formation of the first Pacific Islands Conference of Leaders, which spawned the Center’s Pacific Islands Development Program. … more
