HONOLULU (Sept. 21, 2019) – Jillian Bonnardeaux, a 14-year veteran of the US Foreign Service with a focus on public diplomacy, has joined the East-West Center as Diplomat in Residence. She will be posted at the Center through June 2021.
Prior to her arrival in Honolulu, Ms. Bonnardeaux served as spokesperson in the US Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand where she coordinated messaging and public affairs outreach for the 49 U.S. government agencies based there. Previously, she served in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs in Washington, DC and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Her other overseas assignments included tours in Harare, Zimbabwe and Accra, Ghana.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service in 2006, Ms. Bonnardeaux worked in Washington, DC with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ Middle East Program coordinating regional and US-based conferences and workshops on topics including the role of women, youth, and civil society institutions in post-conflict environments, with a particular focus on Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan. She has a Master’s degree in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from American University’s School of International Service. Jillian is available for public speaking events and will happily meet with students and others interested in joining the U.S. Foreign Service.
