WASHINGTON, DC (December 12, 2012) – The East-West Center in Washington welcomed the 2012 class of the National Bureau of Asian Research's "China's Rising Leaders" program for a closed-door roundtable discussion with representatives from the American and "western" media. The participants exchanged views on a number of topics related to the US-China relationship ranging from the coverage of leadership changes in the US and China, to the rise of new media, to perceptions of each other in the media and in public discourse.

Under the theme “The Impact of 2012 Leadership Transitions on US-China Relations,” NBR's program selects China’s up-and-coming leaders in business, politics, academia, law, and media and brings them to Washington, D.C., and Seattle, WA, to interact with counterparts in the United States. The East-West Center in Washington was pleased to provide a forum for such an exchange of views and ideas; particularly as an extension of the spirit of media exchanges facilitated by the East-West Center's on-going US-Asia journalism fellowships and exchanges.
