Indo-Pacific journalism conference at Hawai‘i Convention Center June 27-30 is open to public both in person and virtually, with early registration discount through May 15

HONOLULU (May 11, 2022) -- Discounted in-person registration is still available through May 15 for the 2022 East-West Center International Media Conference. Designed for working journalists but also open to the public, the renowned conference will feature more than forty exceptional speakers and panelists on the theme of Connecting in a Zero-Trust World, including Nobel Peace Laureate and press freedom champion Maria Ressa from the Philippines, Meta security policy chief Nathaniel Gleicher, and many others.

In-person registration for the three-day conference is $275, rising to $325 after May 15 and $350 at the door. Single-day registration and student discounts are also available. Registration for virtual attendance is $75. For registration info, visit: www.eastwestcenter.org/ZMG.

The conference will also include a special awards dinner on June 28 honoring a number of international journalists of courage and freedom, along with distinguished Hawai‘i alumni of East-West Center media programs. Standalone tickets for the dinner are $65.

Held every two years in a major Asia Pacific media hub, the East-West Center International Media Conference offers a unique professional networking opportunity for journalists from the US, Asia, and Pacific to discuss key issues in the region and common challenges and trends in media. Recognized for their exceptional keynote speakers and in-depth panels of journalists and experts, our conferences also offer media training workshops and networking social events with international journalists and other media professionals.

The only international media conference held regularly with an Asia Pacific-US focus, these biennial gatherings have grown into one of the region’s most influential media events. About this year’s theme: ‘Connecting in a Zero-Trust World’
As social trust in media, government, business, science, NGOs – even in the concept of society itself – has plummeted, societies seem headed toward a zero-trust world (to borrow a term from the cybersecurity lexicon). In a world where there is no longer a common set of facts and little trust in media, journalists face some of their biggest challenges ever in remaining society’s watchdog.

The conference will look at how media can rebuild trust, reconnect societies, and lead us back to a more fact-based world. It will also feature international speakers discussing how societies can collaborate to better meet global challenges such as climate change, and how diplomacy and international relations are impacted by the zero-trust environment.
