WASHINGTON, DC (Aug. 27, 2018) -– The East-West Center and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States have now released the newest, updated versions of the Korea Matters for America/America Matters for Korea publication and website. The booklet and corresponding state and congressional district one-page connections summaries can be accessed and downloaded online at: AsiaMattersforAmerica.org/Korea.

Korea Matters for America/America Matters for Korea functions as a practical resource for political leaders, journalists, students, and the general public, and features infographics that illustrate the importance and impact of US-Korea relations at the national, state, and local levels. “The East-West Center in Washington is pleased and grateful to have worked with the Embassy of Korea in the US and the Asan Institute for Policy Studies and the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy on this timely, updated report,” said Dr. Satu Limaye, Director of the East-West Center in Washington. “As dynamic developments in US-Korea relations demonstrate, the relationship continues to become deeper and more wide-ranging and engages not only policy-makers and experts but both societies and publics. I hope this resource for understanding and following the national and local connections between the US and Korea will be a helpful resource to officials, the media, educators and citizens in both countries.”

The new Korea Matters for America/America Matters for Korea update highlights important facts and figures on the US-Korea Alliance, trade and investment under the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement, jobs created by Korean trade and investment, Korean American population, student exchanges, and sister city and state relationships. Korea Matters for America/America Matters for Korea is generously supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the USA, and produced in partnership with The Asan Institute for Policy Studies and The Korea Institute for International Economic Policy.

On September 12, 2018, The East West Center in Washington and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the USA, along with the Congressional Korea Caucus, will hold a formal launch event for Korea Matters for America/America Matters for Korea on Capitol Hill from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM at the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2060.
