Building institutional partnerships is crucial to carrying out ASDP mission of enhancing undergraduate teaching and learning about Asian cultures and societies. Peer-to-peer exchanges among college and university teams have been an important factor in the continued success of ASDP’s flagship summer institute on Infusing Asian Studies into the Undergraduate, and ASDP has from the outset stressed the merits of developing ongoing consortia of alumni institutions. In order to facilitate the networking process, ASDP has established formal relationships with a number of colleges and universities as ASDP regional centers for expanding and enhancing American undergraduate Asian studies programs.

In addition to collecting resources useful in teaching about Asia (including but not limited to books, videos, and information about sources of funding or grants) and making these available to neighboring institutions, ASDP regional centers are encouraged to host topical seminars and workshops related to teaching about Asia, and to collaborate as possible on grants and student study abroad programs. Representatives from the ASDP regional centers serve as members of the ASDP Advisory Board and assist ASDP and the ASDP Alumni Chapter in hosting ASDP’s Annual National Conference.
