Infusing Southeast Asian Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum

This multidisciplinary, two-week faculty development program offers undergraduate educators opportunities to interact with leading Asian studies experts in an intensive program of lectures, discussions, film screenings, and cultural events. The program is designed to assist individual faculty members and institutional teams develop course curricula and strategies for Asian studies program development. The 2016 program will be directed by Peter Hershock (East-West Center) and will include a thematic overview of Southeast Asian history as well as more detailed looks at Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar/Burma; sessions on Buddhism and Islam; an introduction to Southeast Asian art traditions; discussions of women and youth cultures; and sessions on politics and identity construction across the region. Participants will receive lodging in the East-West Center faculty guesthouse and their home institutions are asked to cover airfares and a program fee of $350.
