Tyva Kyzy: The Daughters of Tuva Tyva Kyzy: The Daughters of Tuva
In-person In-person

From Tuva, a Russian republic in southern Siberia, comes Tyva Kyzy ('Daughters of Tuva'), the first and only female group that performs all the styles of Tuvan throat-singing, combined with traditional instruments. Customarily, Tuvan women have been prohibited from performing throat-singing, yet Tyva Kyzy perform this ancient art in their own unique ‘feminine’ style. Since their formation in 1998, Tyva Kyzy has been changing the history of throat-singing, and is creating a new future for the next generation of female throat-singers in Tuva. Tuvan throat singers can produce two, three, or sometimes even four pitches simultaneously. The effect has been compared to that of a bagpipe, created just with the human voice.

From 6:30-7:30 pm, please join us for some pre-show cultural activities.
