The 11th North Pacific Arctic Conference

Science, Technology and the Path Forward for a New Arctic

November 1-6, 2021

The 2021 North Pacific Arctic Conference (NPAC) is a collaborative project between the East-West Center (EWC) and the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI). KMI is Korea’s premier research organization for developing maritime and fishery policies.

The overall theme of the 2021 conference, the eleventh in the NPAC series, is “Science, Technology and the New Arctic.”  The goal is to help strengthen awareness and a common understanding of Arctic issues in Asian and North American societies, foster innovative research collaboration and promote beneficial policies.  NPAC seeks to include Indigenous voices and those of early career scholars in its work.  Participants are mostly in the academic sector, but also include those from the government and business sectors.  While special attention is given to the Asia-Pacific dimensions of the Arctic, the conference is global in scope.

2021 NPAC Thematic Sessions: I. The Policy Environment for Arctic Cooperation: Finding Common Ground; II. North Pacific Perspectives on Arctic Science and International Cooperation; III. Integrating Science and Policy to Adapt to Climate Change Impacts; IV. New Frontiers in Marine Technology – Will They Support a Blue Economy?; V. Technological Dimensions of Arctic Governance; VI. Arctic Futures and the Pathway Toward NPAC 2022

The proceedings will be published in a volume.

Participation is by invitation only.
