For the first time in six years, the 12th Pacific Islands Conference of Leaders (PICL) convened in-person on September 12-14, 2022 at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawai’i. Leaders from 16 Pacific Island nations and territories were welcomed under the theme of “Pu‘uhonua: The Pacific Way Forward.”

The PICL provides a forum for all Pacific leaders to develop common approaches to critical issues of shared concern to Pacific Island peoples. Then Fiji Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara and Hawai’i Governor George Ariyoshi founded the PICL at the East-West Center in 1980.
