Overview
In partnership with key consortium partners, the EWC aims to increase the implementation of data-driven business models for media outlets in the Pacific Islands in order to bolster their financial independence, respond to increasing need for digital innovation, and build their resilience to disinformation and malign foreign influence.
The EWC and key consortium partners will bring together Pacific Island newsrooms and Pacific Islander, U.S., and Australian innovators from media, tech, business, and economic fields to develop and test new ideas and creative solutions for viable business models for Pacific Island media outlets. EWC will host a Virtual Innovation Lab to facilitate the development of new initiatives and proven solutions that address Pacific Island media financial viability challenges. Innovation Grants will then be awarded to select newsrooms for the implementation of innovative, viable business model solutions. Representatives from traditional Pacific Island media outlets as well as media start-ups will be encouraged to participate.
